SEBRING WRAP UP
The 2011 edition of the race lived up to its reputation for great racing and good times.A field of 56 cars took the green flag at 10:30 AM, waved by Jaguar Heritage Trust Chairman Mike O'Driscoll. The field included a wide variety of production-based and specialty racer cars from around the world.

For the beginning of its second ALMS season, the now two-car JaguarRSR team showed strength. Early in the race, contact caused damage to the bodywork of the number 098 XKR GT, though it did not take the Jag out of the race.Working hard to conserve its Dunlop tires, the 098's three drivers (PJ Jones, Kenny Wilden and Rocky Moran, Jr.) did a great job getting the car through all 12 hours of its first endurance race. The car ran as high as 9th, often posting lap times a half second faster than those posted during qualifying - a very good sign that there will be more to come from both the cars and the drivers.

Several XKs and XJs received the once over and the all star product specialist team, including former Jaguar IMSA Champ Davy Jones and Indy Car star Roberto Guerrero, to name two, answered questions and engaged in their share of "bench racing" with the display visitors. An added treat was in Sebring's Motorsports Hall of Fame - the Group 44 Jaguar XJ5 IMSA GTP racer made a rare appearance alongside the teams Series III V-12 E-Type which won the Sports Car Club of America's B Production championship in 1974. It was the famous E-Type's last appearance before heading back to the U.K. for Goodwood's annual Festival of Speed.

2012 Jaguar XKR-S breaks cover
“The XKR-S is a bold and exciting new model for Jaguar,” said Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar’s new Global Brand Director. “We expect to attract both loyal and new Jaguar driving enthusiasts who still want the comfort, opulence and class only a Jaguar can offer, combined with inspirational performance.”The XKR-S produces 550PS and 680Nm of torque, enough power to offer a top speed of 186mph (300km/h). Its performance credentials speak for themselves: 0-60mph takes 4.2 seconds, with 0-100mph dismissed in just 8.6 seconds.

The XKR-S is not merely the quickest Jaguar ever, but also the most agile, responsive and driver-focused. It exploits the XK’s strong, lightweight aluminium body architecture to maximise both handling and economy. Alongside its incredible performance, the XKR-S is the only car in its class that emits less than 300g/km CO2.Bespoke suspension changes to the front and rear offer ultimate precision, control and driver appeal, while a reprogrammed Adaptive Dynamics system allows the enthusiastic driver to explore the edges of the handling envelope.

Full details, images and video of the XKR-S will be available on Geneva press day – March 1.Alongside the exciting new XKR-S, Jaguar will be marking the 50th anniversary of the E-Type with the first in a series of celebrations that take place during 2011.Jaguar will be hosting E-Type drives at the Parc des Eaux Vives in Geneva, where the original car was launched by the marque’s founder Sir William Lyons half a century ago.

The standard S-Type had its distinctive features, distinguishing marks that had already introduced something new era in the Jaguar: a dynamic and sporty line, and the unmistakable oval grille and trim the tail. The ability of the body Panzani was to adhere to these tenets, twisting everything that’s around: carrozeria the building has been completely re-used in sheet metal components entirely ad hoc, staying perfectly on the original anchors. The wheel arches have been widened to 10 cm on both axes and connected perfectly on the new bumper: In the front there are two large air intakes that balance the aesthetic balance of flashy Jaguar grille, and above all optimize the flow of water towards The braking system which – as we shall see later – was obviously increased.

Another key hallmark of the S-Type has been met with fist in defiance of the dictates of fashion, they always want a facelift to the look of the creatures, the headlights have been kept original and only covered with metal grilles that recall the wise racing cars of the ’70s.The only concession to modernity that have been granted is a pair of emitting LED daytime slots at the bottom of the bumper. The mirrors are a gem: small, round, perfectly integrated in the doors and especially very old style. There’s past has been preserved also in the choice of the cap of gasoline, now fully exposed.

While respecting the oval of the moldings, the actions on the queue status are more invasive: in this case, for example, the original lights were replaced by two elements led to 180mm in diameter and well in the bumper has been build a new extractor Maranello air style that has “imposed” the choice of a central outlet to double output of 100mm in diameter. The ultimate in sophistication was reserved for the body color, a particular composition studied from the center of the Panzani Design style: it is a gray / lava intense and full bodied, a very uniform grain and then treated with a transparent finish.

The structure of Vintage GT was even more extreme, with a lowering of 40mm on both axes, and an enhanced braking system with discs and calipers with 4 pistons plus. A body so impressive, then, could only take appropriate wheel groups: OZ rims 10 “x 20″ front and 12 “x 20″ rear, on which they were keyed respectively 255/35 and 305/30 tires.

Jaguar/Land Rover owners build electric cars in the Midlands

Land Rover
The company has established an electric vehicle manufacturing centre in Coventry close to the M6 and M69 capable of building up to 1,500 cars per year.
In the first phase of its operation it has built 40 cars, the last 25 of which have just been delivered to customers.

Now it is ready to ramp up production but doesn’t want to reveal the sort of numbers it will be producing in the next year as it will very much depend on demand. The company is using the Vista, a conventional petrol engine car on sale in India, as the shell and converting it to electric power.

“By using the Vista we have a car which is a full four-seater with good luggage space, unlike a lot of electric cars which have limited space inside and are not really practical,” said Steve Ocock, head of manufacturing.

“The body shells are brought in from India without an engine, gearbox or electronics and we equip them for electric power here.”

The Vista EV – electric vehicle – costs around £1.50 to charge and has a range of 100 miles. Like all electric vehicles, however, it is still expensive and each one costs £20,000 even with the government electric vehicle subsidy.

Last year we brought you the first spy shots of the facelift work being done to the still relatively new Jaguar XFR, and now we have new images of the more mundane 2012 Jaguar XF as it readies for its freshened look.

Like the XFR, the work is primarily cosmetic, and focuses on the lights and bumpers at each end of the car. Due to the heavy psychedelic wrap it's hard to make out much in the way of detail, but the top edges of the headlights appear to match with a single, smooth cutline at the hood rather than poking upward into the hood with the current circular protrusions.

A tweaked lower air dam and slightly re-shaped grille also look to be part of the 2012 model-year updates.

Talk from our spy photographers about potential new engines for the range sparks curiosity, though with the current car already packing the updated 5.0-liter V-8 for the U.S., we suspect the new engines will be limited to Europe, where gasoline and diesel V-6s are available.

The big cat roars back

http://www.iol.co.za/polopoly_fs/iol-mot-feb18-jagconcept-a-1.1028390!/image/4040621696.jpg_gen/derivatives/box_300/4040621696.jpg
These leaked images show a sexy little Jaguar design study by Bertone, which may even hold some clues about the forthcoming entry-level Jaguar sedan due in 2014. Despite its compact size, measuring just 4.5-metres in length, Bertone has created a sleek and elegant shape reminiscent of previous XJs. This hybrid B99 concept also has suicide doors, which are unlikely to be present on the production model.
In little more than two years Tata, the Mumbai-based conglomerate that also owns Tetley Tea and steelmaker Corus (now Tata Steel Europe), has transformed Jaguar Land Rover from a loss-maker to a winner.

The Birmingham-based luxury automaker is once again what it was decades ago - a triumph of British engineering and entrepreneurship. And that success is an emphatic answer to the critics who accused Tata, under chairman Ratan Tata, of an act of vanity when he bought Jaguar Land Rover for £1.5 billion (R17.4 billion) in 2008.Here was a successful Indian company, they said, buying an expensive toy - a world-renowned product that was long past its glory days.

For the first 10 months it seemed as though the critics were right - in that time the company made only 167 000 cars and lost £280 million (R3.2 billion). But in the last three months of 2010 it made a profit of £275 million (3.15 billion). This was the fifth consecutive quarter of profits. And most analysts believe that in three months’ time Jaguar Land Rover will be in a position to report a record £1 billion (R11.6 billion) profit.

The turnaround is astonishing and a welcome change to the 18 months of economic misery up to the end of 2009 when Jaguar Land Rover announced 2500 redundancies and the closure of one plant - a decision rescinded in November 2010.

So how did this happen? Leading motor industry analyst Rob Golding said: “Three years ago Jaguar was unloved. Ford owned the company but they wanted to get rid of it. Ford boss Alan Mulally wanted to concentrate on Ford and to get rid of the luxury cars. But now they have been given a sense of direction and management and designers have been allowed to get on with it.”

While Ford may not have given its time to Jaguar Land Rover at least it did not turn off the investment tap and work on new models went ahead. Now Jaguar Land Rover is churning out a new range of highly popular Range Rovers, Freelanders and Jaguars such as the XF and XJ.

Inevitably it has taken top management changes to bring the company back to life. Industry veteran and former boss of Opel Vauxhall, Carl-Peter Forster, was recruited at the beginning of 2010 as group chief executive at Tata Motors. Former BMW executive Ralf Speth was taken on as chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover.

2012 Jaguar XF Likely to Debut at the 2011 New York Auto Show

Jaguar will reportedly premiere the 2012 Jaguar XF at the 2011 New York Auto Show that will commence in April. The 2012 Jaguar XF is to be powered by a four-cylinder 2.2-liter diesel engine that is expected to be one of the most fuel efficient units in the XF lineup.

Currently, a diesel variant of the Jaguar XF is already available in European markets and is powered by a 3.0-liter engine. Meanwhile, the 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that is to power the 2012 Jaguar XF will be similar to the one that will power the Rover Evoque. It is expected to yield nearly 200 hp and produce CO2 emissions of 150 g/km.

According to 4wheelsnews, Jaguar intends to incorporate a strategy similar to that of Audi and BMW with the forthcoming 2.2 liter Jaguar XF diesel variant. Apparently, the Audi A6 and the BMW 5-Series that are powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine have found favor with the crowd.

Meanwhile, the design of the revamped XF will likely have new LED headlights, a modified front bumper, new taillights and a new rear apron.

The on-again, off-again Jaguar XE sports car apparently is on again and set for a 2011 debut as a show car at the Geneva Motor Show, which will also be the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of the legendary E-Type at the same event.

Jaguar has been toying with the idea of producing a front-engine, rear-drive 2-seater for a decade now, having shown such a concept at the 2000 North American International Auto Show called the F-Type. That in turn was inspired by a 1998 mid-engine show car called the XK180 that was presented in Paris in 1998. The switch from mid- to front-engine for the F-Type was to align it closer to the S-type sedan components upon which it was originally going to be based.

Unlike the F-Type, the XE currently under consideration would have an all-new aluminum body and chassis with a front-engine, rear-drive layout using the technology and processes developed for the alloy-intensive XJ sedan. Several engine options are rumored including a supercharged V-6 producing 385 bhp, the newly introduced 510-bhp 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 used in the R-Series products and perhaps an extended-range electric.

While the concept version of the production model would be timed for the E-Type anniversary, actual production of the car isn’t expected to begin until the 2013 calendar year. Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata Group that now owns Jaguar, has publicly stated his desire to see the British automaker get back into the sports car market.

2014 Jaguar Crossover

2014 Jaguar Crossover
This time it was almost confirmed by Jaguar Land Rover spokesman Stuart Schorr who said that the future line-up will include "expansion of our portfolio from the current eight models over the next five years, including at least two new models, as well as a number of new body styles and a broader range of engines and technologies."

It is believed that a crossover will help Jaguar’s sales. And this statement should come as no surprise. Imagine how many people will be interested in a crossover with a design similar to the recently launched XJ sedan and with a luxurious interior.

The future Jaguar crossover will be built on the same platform as the recently launched Land Rover Evoque. It will be an all-wheel-drive model powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. You wouldn’t have expected to see a four-cylinder engine in a Jaguar crossover, right? But taken under consideration the current situation, it seems to be the perfect choice. A four-cylinder engine will ensure a low fuel consumption, and in turbocharged version will deliver enough power to offer great performance numbers for the crossover.

The list of competitors will start with the Land Rover Evoque and will also include models like Audi Q5 or BMW X3. The Evoque is powered by a 2.0-liter Si4 turbocharged engine that combines direct fuel injection and twin variable valve timing. In USA it will be priced from around $45k.

The entry-level sedan market is a crowded area. There are more vehicles on sale in this segment than there are Walmarts in small towns. Well, maybe not that many, but you get the idea. In order to break through the segment barrier, you need a special vehicle, and not just moderately special either. To find success, an automaker needs something brilliant.

The exterior look of the baby Jaguar will carry over some of the design elements of the XF and XJ. That big gaping front grille will be featured and it might have the same taillights as the XJ. In fact, from the sketches we have seen, the back of the sedan looks a lot like the flagship XJ. It should be interesting to see if these styling cues will actually be used, or if these images are just fantasy. The new baby Jaguar is depicted in many renderings as a four-door coupe, but a more conventional four-door sedan and five-door estate are being designed as well by Jaguar.

We should look to the new Range Rover Evoque for an idea of likely engines to be in the baby Jaguar. The Ford 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ecoboost engine is just about guaranteed, while the 2.2-liter diesel is likely as well. All motors will be connected to a ZF eight speed automatic. They will also be turning up a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel and a hybrid version that will combine a V6 diesel with a 47 HP electric motor. The power will delivered to the rear wheels.

Seeing as how we are calling this machine Jaguar’s 3-Series, it’s obvious that the BMW will be a main rival, as will the two other German machines, the C-Class and the A4. Cadillac will offer up the CTS and Lexus has the IS. There are a few others that will compete against it too, but until we know more on the X760, we will have to wait and see.

The British manufacturer’s first ever diesel-powered sports car will get a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 to take on models like the BMW 635d, which has become the best-selling car in its class in the UK and Europe.

In the new, lightweight aluminium-alloy XK, the punchy 3.0 turbodiesel promises a practical mix of performance and economy, with 0-60mph in under five seconds and a combined average of 30mpg within its grasp. With V8 levels of torque on offer, the XK D could even become the ‘sleeper’ in the range, boasting giant-killing in-gear acceleration for strong point-to-point driving pleasure.

Significantly, as the market has shifted towards diesel sports cars, it should also help to lift the XK’s production average back up to 10,000 to 12,000 units per year by exposing the XK to a large new market segment. To refresh the Jaguar sports car concept, the XK will feature all-new sheetmetal and a new grille design that will ditch today’s ‘Spitfire wing’ oval shape, which dates back to the E-type of the 1960s.

This traditional shape will be dropped for two reasons. Firstly, it can’t easily be expanded to make a bolder front-end statement. “It just looks wrong when it’s stretched,” said one insider. Secondly, the oval shape has proved to be less of a success overseas, where research shows it can be confused with other brands’ grilles.

Instead, Jaguar is deriving a new shape from the oblong design launched on the XF, but with its own unique characteristics. “The studio has explored dozens of variations. It’s just a matter of choosing the right one,” said another insider.

The XK’s exterior sheetmetal is also expected to move Jaguar design further forward again, just as today’s Ian Callum-designed model did when it was launched in 2006. Although the final styling still has to be chosen, the favoured sketches are understood to feature crisper metalwork and more developed body surfacing.

According to a recent report, Jaguar will launch a hybrid in 2013 or 2014.While details are limited, Car Magazine is reporting the hybrid will likely feature a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine, a 35 kW (47 hp / 48 PS) electric motor, and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The first hybrid is expected to be the XJ, but Jaguar-Land Rover's chief hybrid engineer Peter Richings stated the hybridized transmission can fit into any vehicle with a longitudinal layout. This means virtually every Jaguar (with the exception of the X-type) can use the system.

More importantly, Jaguar is considering range-extending hybrids. Like the Chevrolet Volt, these models would use an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery pack, and a small petrol (or diesel) engine generator. When the batteries are depleted, the engine would turn on to recharge them and simultaneously provide power to the electric motor.

Our cunning spy photographers caught this Jaguar XF prototype trolling around Europe. It seems with the all-new new, bigger XJ on the streets, officials thought it best to refresh the aging XF sedan's form

Camouflage predominantly hides this tester's nose and tail -- the two areas expected to get the most XJ-esque reshaping. The headlamps, for example, become slimmer; the tight matrix grille more upright; and the triplet of lower inlets sleeker. Look closely and you'll notice a bulbous, chiseled hood.

Rumors maintain that a few interior modifications will arrive with the refresh, as will a revised engine range. An XF wagon should arrive simultaneously with the sedan, too. Exactly when they'll hit the market is still anyone's guess.

According to Car Magazine, the British brand is working on the 2013 Jaguar XE - a new coupe and roadster line-up that will fall in the same market segment as the Porsche Boxter and Cayman. The new 2013 Jaguar XE is part of a new company strategy that aims to transform it into the British Porsche. The 2013 Jaguar XE price should fall in the 60,000 Euros range.

The 2013 Jaguar XE will have a new lightweight architecture and although it will fight Porsche, it will have a front-engine platform with rear-wheel-drive.

The power of the 2013 Jaguar XE is expected to come from a supercharged V6 engine developing around 350 hp or a naturally aspirated one with 270 hp.

The 2013 Jaguar XE is expected to spawn a 2013 Jaguar XER version in two years time after the launch of the base model.
