Jaguar preparing New X Type to take on BMW 3 Series
Auto Express claims that this news has been confirmed by none other than Carl-Peter Forster, who heads Tata Motors globally. In his words, “for Jaguar to take on its German competitors globally, a smaller, higher sales volume saloon was a necessity, and so work has begun on the new car”. This new saloon will replace non performing X Type which is based on Ford Mondeo. The new Jaguar X Type will be coming with cutting edge design and stylish curves but will be keeping it’s distinction from biggies like Jaguar XF and XJ.
The front cluster could be derived from Jaguar XF sedan, which will essentially carry the mesh type front grille and swept back headlights. The rear may sport more curves than current Jaguar line up. This new saloon could be all aluminium body which will be superlight weight and will definitely give an edge to this new baby Jaguar interms of fuel economy.
Tata may fit a down sized four cylinder petrol and diesel motors in 2012 Jaguar X Type. The diesel motor will be replacing Ford’s 2.2ltr diesel engine that powering Jaguar Land Rover Freelander. A 3.0ltr V6 Turbodiesel may also join later on and by 2015 a hybrid power house may get introduced in Jaguar X Type. We know it’s too early to talk about something five years down the line.
